Harman served as president of the ENMU Greyhound Club in 1973 and 1974 and was an active member of the Bench Club for a number of years. After being recruited by then head coach and current Hall of Honors member, Carl Richardson, to play football for the Hounds, Harman left Portales in 1959, to serve his country with the Army.
He seldom missed a home game, seeing more home football and basketball games than nearly anyone in ENMU history. Harman fed the men’s basketball team one year during Christmas break and took the women’s basketball team to Cattle Baron a number of times. At one point, the Zia team presented him with a letter jacket as the “Zias’ #1 Fan”
