PORTALES, N.M.— During Rachel Mohler’s four-year stint with the Eastern New Mexico University softball team, both her name and the Zias were feared throughout the country. On Saturday, Mohler will join a number of her former teammates from the 2001 College World Series team in the ENMU Athletic Hall of Honors. Tickets are available in the ENMU athletic office for $15. For ticket information, please contact Norma Stroik at (575) 562-4309.
Mohler was selected as the Lone Star Conference South Division Freshman of the Year in 1999 and followed with a LSC South Co-Player of the year selection in 2000. After the Zias won the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament in 2001, she was named a National Fastpitch Softball Association All-American.
Over Mohler’s career, the Zias won 105 games. Known as a clutch hitter in big games, Mohler batted .400 in the NCAA Regional with three homers and six runs batted in. She still holds the Zia records for doubles, homeruns, RBIs, total bases and intentional walks. She is second in career hits, and third in both double plays turned and runs scored.
