PORTALES, N.M.— The Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross-country team is one week away from opening their 2010 season in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the Midwestern State Invitational, but they will have a little extra motivation on the way there. The Greyhounds enter the season ranked fifth in the South Central Region and are second in the poll among Lone Star Conference teams.
The fifth-place ranking is believed to be the highest regional ranking in program history, coming after turning in a ninth-place performance at the regional championship meet, held in Abilene, Texas. Last season, Richard Kogo (Sr., Eldoret, Kenya/West Texas CC) and Jacob Lozano (So., Hobbs, N.M./Hobbs HS) led the charge, turning in 34th and 37th-place finishes respectively.
