PORTALES, N.M.— The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team (3-1) rode
Emerson Rodrigues’ (Sr., F, Natal, RN, Brazil/Colegio Objectivo Portugar) first career hat trick and
Orlando Rodriguez’ (Fr., G, Plano, Texas/Plano HS) to their third win of the season, defeating the visiting University of Texas of the Permian Basin, 4-0, Thursday afternoon at ENMU Soccer Field.
Rodrigues tallied the game-winning goal on a cross pass from Andy Wilkinson (Fr., M, Lewes, East Sussex, England/Sussex Downs 6th form college), 16:33 into the game and followed with a penalty-kick goal less than 18 minutes later.
Midway through the second half, he completed his hat trick on another cross pass from Wilkinson. Kal Herbert (So., M, Willaston, England/Neston HS) netted his first goal of the season with 15:57 left in the game to provide the final margin.
The Greyhounds outshot the Falcons by a 17-9 margin and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eastern New Mexico University soccer team will return to action on Monday, when they visit Wayland Baptist. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. MST.
