SILVER CITY, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team trounced their cross-state rivals Monday, outpacing Western New Mexico University 63-41 in what turned out to be a one sided affair.
Briana White scored a team high 12 points on 5-13 shots from the floor. As a team, ENMU (4-2) went 25-64 from the field and 6-23 from behind the three-point line.
The Greyhounds ended up even in the assists to turnover battle, recording 18 of each. Eastern's athletic advantage showed over the Mustangs (2-3), with the Hounds recording 11 blocks. Sarah Stinnett led the way with three swats.
Johna McClelland rounded out the Greyhounds performance with a game-high seven rebounds and an efficient 3-4 night from the floor, scoring eight points.
While the final score was one-sided, the Greyhounds only found themselves up by two points after the first quarter, leading 12-10. The second quarter of play saw Eastern take control, outscoring the Mustangs 21-6. The third quarter was much of the same, pushing the Hounds lead to 27 with a 15-6 performance.
After the Hounds two game stretch over New Mexico, Having beaten NM Highlands the previous week, they will return home before taking on Wayland Baptist University in their first home game of the season. While the Greyhounds won't technically be at home, they will be playing in nearby Clovis, N.M., for their matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (MT).
