RICHARDSON, TEXAS —
Sarah Stinnett from the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (4-2) has been selected as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Greyhounds' victory over Western New Mexico University. The victory was the third straight for ENMU.
The selection marked the first time Stinnett had been chosen for LSC weekly honors, and the first time this season a Greyhound had been chosen.
Tori Tucker garnered offensive honors from the LSC on two occasions last season. Eastern has not had a player receive defensive weekly honors since the 2010-11 season, when Precious Herrin earned the honor twice.
Stinnett paced a strong defensive effort for the Greyhounds, which limited Western New Mexico to just 41 points on 31 percent shooting. The performance allowed Eastern to complete the sweep of in-state rivals after a win over New Mexico Highlands (Nov. 24). Stinnett and the Hounds held the Mustangs to just six points in both the second and third quarters and allowed just three three-point baskets. She completed the game with a team-best three steals.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, to play Wayland Baptist University. The contest will tipoff at 4 p.m. MT, at Rock Staubus Gymnasium in Clovis, N.M.
