PORTALES, NM — After a strong season in 2017, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team has a new assistant coach. Jade Rhodes, a player from the National Pro Fastpitch Women's Softball League's Pennsylvania Rebellion after a four-year career at Auburn University (2013-16).
"I could not be more thrilled to have Jade join our staff," said Head Coach
Katie Welborn. "She was a phenomenal player at one of the most prestigious softball programs in the nation and as a professional player, I have no doubt that she will be able to make the transfer from great player to great coach seamlessly. Jade brings a lot to the team that we need. She first stood out because of her extensive knowledge of the game, but when every single reference said that she was the hardest worker they had met, I knew we had to have her. She will bring many qualities beneficial to the program, like her work ethic, her youthful energy, and great experience. Jade steps into large shoes following our former assistants, but if anyone can fill that void, it is Jade. We are excited she is a Greyhound and are ready to get this season going!"
A highly decorated player in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference, Rhodes brings a wealth of high-level experience and leadership to the Greyhound staff. She was a Third Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American as a senior and was chosen to the Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team. Known for her quick glove at first base, Rhodes made the SEC All-Defensive Team as a senior and was second team all-conference. After concluding her career at Auburn with 46 homeruns, she signed with the Pittsburgh Rebellion.
